A social media post by World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst praising convicted rapist Mike Tyson sends out a “signal that the sport continues to devalue women”, Olympic gold medallist and leading gender equality campaigner Nancy Hogshead-Makar has claimed.
Van der Vorst posted on X last week that he would “like to extend my deepest gratitude to the former undisputed heavyweight world champion, the legendary ‘Iron’ Mike Tyson for his support of World Boxing and the Olympic dreams of boxers around the globe.”
He added, “You are a true warrior in the ring, your achievements continue to inspire millions of young fighters to lace up their gloves and work relentlessly to reach the top. We are truly honoured to have you in our corner. Thank you for standing with us, champ.”
