For Brisbane 2032, the hard yakka* starts now
The Australian city was awarded the 2032 Olympics four years ago but only now are preparations starting in earnest. IOC bigwigs are there in force for the first on-site inspection visit
There is a sense of new beginnings during the International Olympic Committee’s Coordination Commission first visit to Australia to inspect preparations for Brisbane 2032.
Queensland’s capital was awarded the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2021 but, until now all the meetings had been conducted remotely without the IOC being able to get a proper sense of what was happening on the ground.
An idea of how important this meeting is to the IOC is that both President Thomas Bach and Kirsty Coventry, his successor in waiting, are in Brisbane to see for themselves what is going on.
