Serena Williams will play her first top-level singles match for nearly four years at Wimbledon today in a comeback that has dominated the build-up to the most famous tennis tournament in the world.

Even at 44, the American’s dominant serve and powerful hitting remain, as does her unparalleled aura, earned during a career that has seen her win 23 Grand Slam titles, including Wimbledon seven times, and four Olympic gold medals.

But Williams is also bringing something new with her return - a highly controversial debate about whether weight-loss drugs should be allowed in elite sport.
