The scenes out of Los Angeles have been of biblical proportions and led some commentators to wonder whether the Californian city can recover in time to host the 2028 Olympics and Paralympics

The pictures we have been watching on television of the wildfires sweeping across Los Angeles have been horrific and heartbreaking. With at least 16 people killed, thousands of homes destroyed and more than 100,000 people under evacuation orders, it is a tragic situation.
